Aquamarine, a stone of serenity, calms and soothes with it’s lovely blue/green color and evokes the calm of the water with it’s given name, which is interpreted at ‘water of the sea’ derived from Latin.  A stone that celebrates the sea goddess of ancient times, it was carried by those who traveled on sea voyages to return safe and prosperous. A truly fascinating stone, it opens your intuition and awareness to the inner ocean of wisdom and creativity.  By the 19th century the popular and thus preferred color for Aquamarine was a sea green, yet in modern times the more popular color is a sky blue.

Aquamarine emits a compassionate energy, that brings a deep relaxation and a lovely liquidity to one’s body as well as the mind. Although eyeglasses may no longer be made of this lovely stone, it is an excellent gemstone for improving vision. It is told that this stone placed on the neck or worn as a short necklace will treat many neck and throat problems one may encounter. When placed on swollen glands or worn around the neck it is known to reduce the swelling as well as fortifying and balancing the glands. Chronic tonsillitis may also be relieved by wearing a necklace of Aquamarine in conjunction with Turquoise, Sodalite, Chalcedony and Blue Topaz. This stone also has a beneficial effect on the thyroid, and metabolic functions.

Aquamarine is said to impart purity to the wearer, as well as coaxing forth the gentle nature personality and nature of the wearer. A symbol of peace, it has also been told to be able to reunite partners in marriage that have separated by allowing them to understand the truth and harmony of their original engagement.

As a semiprecious variety of Beryl, Aquamarine has long been associated with the sea and element of water; ancient stories are told of Sea Witches who cleansed the stones in the ocean by the light of the full moon; hence the association with Poseidon and Neptune.

This beloved stone is worn and carried about the body in magic to enhance one’s psychic powers.  When holding a crystal point or faceted form of Aquamarine around one’s neck, it reduces the conscious mind’s hold on the psychic mind and thus allows our ever present psychic intuitions and impulses to be heard and enter into our conscious mind.

Since ancient times, it has been believed that Aquamarine counteracts the forces of darkness, as well as procuring favor from the spirits of the light.

A cleansing and gentle elixir shall be created when placing Aquamarine in a vessel of fresh water, allowing the vessel to bask in the full moonlight (outdoors if possible) for a minimum of three hours. This elixir may be consumed once the stone is removed, for physical purification and heightened psychic awareness.

To cleanse an Aquamarine the most optimal circumstances would be a glass blue or teal vessel of seawater, overnight under a full moon. These exact parameters are not always possible, although it has been found to be cleansed properly in a vessel of water found nearby (even if that is the tap) with a pinch of sea salt mixed in, allowed to bask overnight in the light of a full moon.

Although Aquamarine is an ancient birthstone in many cultures for the month of October, it is currently the Modern birthstone for the month of March.

Told to be a stone of Taurus, many believe that Aquamarine being a member of the Beryl family as well as hexagonal, that Venus is associated through the number six.  Others have said it to be connected with Gemini, Pisces, and Aries.  Most often it is strongly associated with Aquarius, promoting friendship and love, as well as Pisces to encourage awareness.

Due to it’s enchanting color and soothing energy, Aquamarine is a very popular and well loved stone. To dream of this stone shows that pleasant social activity, loving friendships, and happy relationships are in the near future.
